This Technical Service Bulletin concerns changes to the LPA3 requiring action by our branches and service centres.
2 separate potential issues with LPA3 internals have been identified. Neither issue is urgent. Neither issue requires pro-active customer communication. No product recall is required.
Details
The designs of new LPA3s have been modified to avoid two potential failure routes. Branches and services centres will be requested to retro fit a new part to units being returned for calibration and service, in order to avoid the very small chance of customer issues.
- The arm holding the LPA3 pump body may under some circumstances fail causing the pump to work loose. A new design reduces this chance.
This potentially affects all LPA3 units manufactured before June 2022.
- N version LPA3 units manufactured before June 2022 may experience excess wear in the pressure reducing valve (PRV). The new design uses a material better able to resist the water induced corrosion and erosion.
Affected Units
Change 1: all LPA3 units manufactured before June 2022
Change 2: only N version LPA3 units manufactured before June 2022. This change does not impact M and S versions of the LPA3, nor any other CMP products.
Actions Required
Change 1
- MP UK will free issue replacement pump modules to branches and service centres
- These should be used to replace existing pump modules when units are returned for service or calibration.
- Customers should not be charged for this work, but should be informed
The Pump Modules are part no. 61.008000 (M/N version), or 61.009000(S version):
Units that have an 'R' stamped on the motor bracket already have the new design and do not need updating
Change 2
- MP UK will free issue replacement sensor block assemblies to branches and service centres
- These should be used to replace existing blocks when N type units are returned for service or calibration.
Customers should not be charged for this work, but should be informed
The assemblies include a stainelss steel PRV are part no. 61.036000.
Units that have an 'R' stamped on the motor bracket already have the new design and do not need updatin
Each branch with a service facility will be free issued a number of pumps and sensor block assemblies (where applicable) to be able to replace on customer units at time of service. All other units will be upgraded by MP UK when they are received for their next service and calibration.
Full instructions via training videos for the replacement of both components will be sent in a separate email.
Replaced parts are still valuable and should then be returned to MP UK to be refurbished and used as rotatable pool stock.
Service code associated with these parts will be issued in due course.
